Pagerwesi
The Pagerwesi ceremony is on the fourth day after Saraswati day. Pager means fence, and Wesi means iron. The fence and iron symbolize protection against evil spirits and also protection of the knowledge that people have acquired during Saraswati day.
Balinese pray to Sang Hyang Pramesti Guru on this day, and offerings are brought to their home temples of Sanggah/Merajan and temples in the village.
Offerings are also made to the graves of the deceased who have not yet undergone the Ngaben ritual cremation.
Pagerwesi is the second largest ceremony after Galungan. It differs from other ceremonies in that it is celebrated in the middle of the night and not during the day.
Pagerwesi's philosophy is that the most important knowledge, health, food, clothing, and gold must be kept high on the value scale for people to keep the universe in balance.
Pagerwesi is celebrated once every 210 days (1 year according to the Balinese calendar Pawukon).
