about

Saraswati

Saraswati is the goddess of knowledge, symbolized by a beautiful woman with four arms. Her purpose is to spread a positive attitude towards science and knowledge among the people, which is very important for the Balinese.

The day before Saraswati Day is called Pangredanan, when all books and Lontar (a traditional Balinese book that is the source of science and knowledge) are collected and cleaned of dust.

During Saraswati day, people bring offerings to the holy books and scrolls at home. Students celebrate this important day at school and employees at offices.

The philosophy behind Saraswati day is that education and knowledge are the most important things in a person's life.

Saraswati Day is celebrated once every 210 days (1 year according to the Balinese calendar Pawukon).
