Tumpek Kandang

Public Ceremony

about

Tumpek Kandang

On this day, Balinese people show gratitude to domesticated animals for helping people in their lives with a ceremony. For example, bulls and cows help plow the rice fields, chickens lay eggs, and ducks maintain the rice fields. There are also pigs and goats.

On this day, animals are given more attention and more love. For example, cows can be decorated with fabrics. In addition, they are given the best food the locals can afford.

Importantly, this holiday is not a worship of animals alone. Instead, it is seen as a celebration of the gods for the work done by these animals and a thanksgiving for them as a source of sustenance.

Tumpek Kandang is celebrated once every 210 days (1 year according to the Balinese calendar Pawukon).

Other names: Tumpek Uye, Tumpek Andang
