Bedugul
Bedugul is a mountainous area in the central part of the island. It is around 1,500 meters above sea level and has a cooler climate. The temperature here is usually between 18 and 24 degrees Celsius, making it an ideal place to escape the heat and humidity in other parts of Bali.
The area is inhabited by a few people, mainly farmers and fishermen, who have preserved their traditional way of life. Bedugul is accessible by car or motorbike, with narrow, winding roads leading into the mountainous area. The journey can be challenging, but the area's beautiful scenery and peaceful atmosphere make it well worth the trip.
In Bedugul, you'll find the iconic Ulun Danu Beratan Temple, located on Lake Beratan and one of the most photographed landmarks in Bali. The temple is part of the Subak irrigation system and has spectacular views of the lake and surrounding volcanoes.
Near the area are also the famous Jatiluwih rice terraces, one of the most beautiful in Bali and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You can hike among the rice fields along several marked trails.
There are many strawberry farms around Bedugul where you can pick strawberries and enjoy a variety of strawberry dishes and desserts.
The 115-meter-high Turyapada telecommunications observation tower is being built north of Lake Beratan at more than 1,540 meters above sea level. It is expected to be completed by the end of 2024. The tower is a project of the Balinese government to attract more tourists.
